Banking on the popularity of tumbling blocks and the Avalanche feature in Gonzo’s Quest, NetEnt has created Elements – The Awakening. It’s a 5 reel, 20 payline game, drawing upon the forces of the universe to let all the symbols fall into place, instead of the traditional spinning reels. The game has a variety of Wilds – from expanding to sticky, plus lots of free spins.
Get ready for another great space age themed slot from NetEnt. Here you’ll be dealing with some of the basic elements of the planet – Earth, Fire, Air and Water. Although it looks like another version of Starburst, with the tumbling Avalanche reels from Gonzo’s Quest, Elements is even more than that. The game is actually full of different kinds of wilds. We’ll get you through them all – but let’s start with the basics.
To start, set your coin value, which goes from £0.01 to £0.50. This is a 20 payline game with all lines always active – this means your minimum bet per spin is £0.20. Then you can adjust how many coins you would like to bet on the lines via Level – it goes from 1 to 10. After that you’re ready to spin.
You’ll find that these reels spin a bit differently from usual. These are called Avalanche reels and while they do have a fun little rhythm to them, some players find they move a bit slow. Don’t worry – you can make the action roll faster by going into the game’s settings (the small spanner icon in the bottom left corner of the screen) and selecting “Quick Spin” from there.
The symbols consist solely of the elements, and from the highest to lowest order they are:
Wild: Metallic Box
Other Wilds in Free Fall Mode – see Special Features
The fixed jackpot in Elements – The Awakening can be won by spinning 5 Fire Childs, and will land you 1,500x your bet. Next up is the Earth Child – 5 of these will get you 750x your bet. And by the time you add on all the extra wins from free spins, you can really walk away with quite a decent sum.
Other than a copious amount of free spins (or Free Falls as NetEnt calls them because of those tumbling reels), Elements is famous for its Wilds, which often expand to form more winning paylines.
Alright, so this is a general thing to the game. Instead of spinning reels, you have symbols fall into position. But what’s really special is that the winning symbols will explode, the remaining symbols will fall into place and new symbols will fall in. That means you can start collecting some pretty big wins. And when there are no more wins, the Avalance feature ends, and Free Fall modes starts.
This meter is located just above the Spin button. It will grow with each successive fall that has one or more winning lines, and can grow up to a maximum of 4 Avalanches. It keeps growing until there are no more wins, at which point a new game round will start, with an empty meter.
The Spin button is transformed into the diamond shaped Energy Meter during a win. It’s divided into 4 sections, each representing one of the elements. The colour on the Meter will match the winning Element, and this will be the Free Fall mode that will be activated. If the energy for 2 elements are equal, then the Free Fall mode will be chosen randomly.
Get 4 or more consecutive Avalanches and you will activate one of the Free Fall modes – it’s the equivalent of free spins. There are 4 Free Fall modes – Fire, Earth, Air and Water, corresponding to the elements in the game. During Free Fall mode, you will get 10 free falls (or free spins), during which you will get different kinds of expanding wilds:
The Fire Storm Wild will appear on reels 2, 3 and 4, and can expand to reels 1 and 5. It can expand in any direction and transform any 2 neighboring symbols in Wilds.
2 Earth Storm Wilds will fall randomly in the first free fall and remain on the reels for the entire Free Fall mode. After the first spin, the Wilds can expand to adjacent positions.
These only appear on columns 2, 3, and 4. These don’t move much – they’re like sticky wilds and remain in place until they form a winning bet line.
Water Storm Wilds can be on columns 2, 3 and 4. These can expand vertically and transform an entire column into wilds.
Elements – The Awakening has a space theme, but it also has a mystical, earthy feeling that conjures up the powerful forces that underlie life. The Fire Child and other Child symbols are surprisingly cute, but not in a treacle sweet kind of way. Wins are flashy with lights screeching into the Energy Meter. The sound track is relatively minimal and non-intrusive, until you hit a winning payline when symbols will explode!
If you love the tumbling blocks in Gonzo’s Quest, then you should definitely check out the Elements slot. Like all NetEnt games, it’s visually well done and pleasing on the eyes. While there are no multipliers here, free spins (or Free Falls) are very frequent here, and the many different kinds of expanding Wilds will payout. Speaking of payout itself, RTP to this game is at 96%. That’s not too bad, and you can prepare yourself for numerous wins.
